Genesis Metal Fury (SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis) by White Ninja Studio

Irena Genesis Metal Fury is a brand new shoot’em up designed for the SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive which is inspired by classic games of the 90’s such as Thunder Force III / IV, Aero Blaster, Super Shinobi II and Contra Hard Corps.
As our first release, Irena Genesis Metal Fury will be a high quality shoot’em up with a classic style that will appeal to fans of the genre, casual players and all those wishing to discover a new game on SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive.

To try the demo, download the binary file to use with an emulator of your choice. Whether you are on Windows or Linux, we recommend BlastEm or KEGA Fusion emulator which will offer you a good gaming experience on your device.

Emulators

If you have a SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive and an EverDrive, all you need to do is copy the binary file to an SD card to play with the demo. Of course, you can also use a flashcart.

In a distant world, an intergalactic ship carrying settlers to the planet Laderia II is suddenly trapped by a powerful magnetic field from the exoplanet Xellia, which until now was unknown.
On board a small stealth fighter, the Rayden MG323, the Major Celina Pelinsky has mission to detect and destroy the source of this magnetic field while an energetic shield temporarily shields the mothership from external attack.
Celina will have to use all her skills as a seasoned pilot to make her way to this hostile planet where she will have to fight against the terrible army of Emperor Shungor, a maleficent being with mysterious powers.

Irena Genesis Metal Fury is an old school horizontal scrolling shoot’em up that will take you into a futuristic and violent universe reminiscent the atmosphere of 80s Sci-Fi movies.
Our goal is to achieve a high quality game running perfectly on all versions and variants of the Mega Drive with real performance optimization to offer fast paced action without slowing down on the screen.
We also want to make every effort to create a rich scenario that will allow us to produce different suites with an evolutionary history and establish a real long term franchise.

During the game, the player can collect different power ups to upgrade their main weapon and equip two modules; one increasing firepower and one to create a magnetic shield protecting the ship from enemy projectiles.

Depending on the situation, it’s possible to adapt your ship’s speed to three different levels with a button push. You can set the default speed in the options menu according to your preference. The current speed is indicated on the HUD in the right of the screen for better visibility.

During the progression, there are dangerous mini-bosses. It will be necessary to be well armed and know the different patterns in order to win the fight and continue the stage.

As the player destroys enemies, the special attack bar will increase. Once fully charged, the special attack can be used to clear the screen of all enemies through a powerful four dragon attack inspired by The Revenge of Shinobi.

Music has a major role in captivating the player and an action packed shoot em up needs to have an amazing soundtrack. Thanks to the talented SpaceCastle, Irena Genesis Metal Fury have many BGM combining the styles of metal and synthwave while harnessing the YM2612 sound chip’s capabilities.

To give you an idea of the project and judge our work, we have developed in a few months a prototype demo available for free download.
This demo allows to play the stage 3 until a mini boss. It’s possible to adjust the player’s lives and credits to progress smoothly. At startup, a quick how-to shows you how the game works.
To play with the demo prototype, it’s necessary to have an SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive (or a clone) with an EverDrive on which you can copy the ROM. If you have a clone like the MegaSG, you will need to use a flash cart.
You can also enjoy the demo on an emulator. We advise you RetroArch, Regen or Kega Fusion that we tried during the tests. Nevertheless know that the experience is better on Mega Drive and MegaSG.
